Position Overview:
MCRI is looking for an innovative individual to join our team as an Automation Technician III/Shop Lead. This position is responsible for leading a crew in building and wiring custom industrial automation equipment at the MCRI facility as well as at customer locations throughout North America. Training opportunities include on-the-job training, tuition payment for courses related to your position and/or a degree, and onsite or internet-based training from the leading provider of robots, FANUC America.
As a core member of the Production Team, you will work together with and lead a team to install conveyors, framework, robots, tooling and guarding. The successful candidate will work closely with MCRI’s electrical engineers, mechanical engineers and customers to develop custom robotic solutions that keep the manufacturing industry competitive.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work well in a team leading Automation Techs I/II during build phases and installations, leading contractors and working with customer personnel to complete common goals and meeting deadlines.
- Read and comprehend mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Escalate issues to management timely.
- Communicate clearly, timely, and effectively with all staff, vendors, and customers.
- Train new hires and assimilate them into the MCRI culture.
- Install conveyors, framework, robots, tooling, and guarding.
- Build/wire back panels for electrical cabinets.
- Install and wire conveyor motors, junction boxes, sensors, stack lights and light curtains.
- Create and implement both standard and non-standard solutions for electrical junctions, wireway, switches, sensors, and valve manifolds.
- Support engineering, manufacturing, and programming departments in testing and debugging equipment.
- Perform robot repairs including preventative maintenance, replacement of wiring harnesses, gearboxes as well as high level functions of robotic operations/movements.
- Work hours and overtime on an as needed basis, involving extra hours during the week, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays/Holidays when traveling for an installation.
- Possess personal organizational skills, follow all company procedures, maintain documentation in a proper manner and accurate time entry.
- Must be punctual, safety conscious, willing to learn, patient, a clear communicator, have a good attitude, and maintain a professional appearance.
Requirements:
- 10+ years mechanical or electrical experience or experience in a related field.
- The ability to effectively and safely lead a group of employees in completing assemblies and installations.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, a reliable means to come to work, and have ability to travel for multiple days to customer sites for installs, repairs, and service work.
- Travel required up to 50% of the time to customer locations.
- Must have own basic tools and an ability to utilize a variety of machine shop power tools.
- Regularly lift 30-50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks.
- Regularly possess manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately.
- Able to work through tasks and challenges in an efficient/resourceful manner.
Preferred Requirements:
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience in machine assembly, pneumatics, basic welding, basic machining, fabrication, and wiring.
- Strong computer operation and software knowledge.
- Strong language and math skills, high level reasoning skills.
- Strong leadership skills, and communication skills.
Job Type: Full-time, on-site at Fremont, Ohio, and requires travel to customer sites.
Pay: $27 – $34 / hour based on experience, plus additional hourly travel incentive.
