Industrial Collaborative Robot

FANUC released the CRX series to meet the demand from manufacturing facilities and fulfillment warehouses to have reliable, long-lasting collaborative robots. With the CRX series’ 8-year zero maintenance and industrial reliability, their popularity grew quickly. This led to the development of three more models to join the series: CRX-5iA, CRX-20iA/L, and CRX-25iA. The addition of these models adds more applications and greater flexibility to the scope of industrial collaborative robot operations.

Getting Started with an Industrial Collaborative Robot

MCRI is excited to help companies get started using the CRX collaborative series in their end of line solutions and warehousing applications. Selecting a collaborative robot through MCRI allows you to choose the level of support you need:

  • Purchase your collaborative robot through MCRI
  • Get help selecting the best collaborative robot and add training hours at your facility
  • Purchase a Robot as a Service (RaaS) lease
  • Have us design and install a custom system for your application

Having these collaborative robots always available, for the jobs that drain your employee’s time, drastically increases your productivity. Each collaborative robot is easy to install, setup, and program using a tablet with drag and drop programming. The new CRX models also allow for hand guidance without the need for an external device. Watch the unboxing video to see the 10-minute setup.

Industrial Collaborative Robot Unboxing – CRX-10iA

Notes for Unboxing a CRX

You will be able to unbox and get your robot moving in just one day.

  • Actual unboxing time was 10 minutes
  • Have a mobile or fixed stand/base ready before unpacking
  • You will need a utility knife and Allen Wrench Set
  • The CRX 10iAL weighs around 80 pounds, so you will want someone to help pick it up to place on the stand and steady it while you secure the bolts.

The entire CRX series is built for mobility and flexibility to quickly and easily setup for new jobs. CRXs can be used with automated carts, manual carts, on rails, or lifts.  Each model works with a standard 120V power receptacle, so no special power upgrades are needed. The CRX has various End of Arm Tooling options that can be setup easily if or when the robot is moved to a new type of application.

Mobility with a Z-lift

Z-lifts allow collaborative robots to palletize tall stacks. They move up as the layer height extends. There are a few things to think about when adding a lift to your application. First, the position of the robot as the lift moves is important, so lifting to a new height will slightly decrease cycle time. Z-lifts are not “collaborative” so they need to be tied into the CRX to make sure they follow the same safety parameters. If adding a Z-lift to your palletizing application, it is important to take this into account when doing your overall risk assessment.

Ewellix is one supplier of z-lifts that have been used in a variety of projects.

CRX Applications

By design, collaborative robots are used for slower rate and throughput needs, but this new series includes three models that include an under-flip motion (CRX-10iA/L, CRX-20iA/L, and the CRX-25iA). This unique, time saving move can reduce cycle time by 15-25% offering even better productivity.

Industrial Collaborative Robot

CRX-5iA and CRX-10iA

These robots have a payload of 5kg/10kg and reach of 994mm/1249mm – a perfect choice for low payload applications:

  • Pick & Place
  • Case & Tote Packing
  • Sorting (including robot wall sortation)
  • Kitting
  • Labeling – see our labeling video for more information about robotic label application
  • Assembly
  • Quality Testing

CRX-10iA/L and CRX-20iA/L

This second group have a payload of 10kg or 20kg and reach of 1,418mm. With the same reach characteristics, it is just a matter of what payload matches your applications.

  • Palletizing
  • Pick & Place
  • Case & Tote Packing
  • Sorting (including robot wall sortation)
  • Kitting
  • Labeling
  • Assembly
  • Quality Testing

CRX-25iA

This long and tall robot handles a payload of 25kg and has a reach of 1,889mm.

  • Built for Palletizing
  • Tote Handling

Industrial Collaborative Robot for Palletizing

For Motion Controls Robotics, end of line Palletizing flexibility is our specialty. We can sort and palletize any number of SKUs you bring to us. Collaborative palletizing adds a new line of flexibility, by giving your facility the option to palletize those rework jobs, specialty orders, warehouse overruns, and any other type of jobs that are outside or beyond the scope of the regular system.
