The Flexible yet Rigid FANUC M-900

The FANUC M-900 series is built for demanding material handling applications that require high payload capacity, repeatability, and accuracy. With multiple model options available, the series gives manufacturers flexibility in reach, payload, and performance while maintaining the strength needed for more demanding jobs.

What makes the M-900 line especially interesting is that it serves two needs at once. Some models are better suited for flexible positioning and longer reach, while others are designed around rigidity for applications where precision under load matters most.

Flexible M-900 Models

These models are a strong fit when the application needs heavy payload capability along with flexible positioning, longer reach, or broad working range.

M-900iB/360
Flexible positioning for heavy payloads.
M-900iB/400L
Heavy payload handling with longer reach.
M-900iA/150P
Excellent reach and repeatability.
M-900iA/200P
Designed for speed and repeatability.

Rigid M-900 Models

When the job depends on precision under load, rigidity matters. These models are better suited for applications where repeatability and structural stiffness play a bigger role.

M-900iB/280 (L)
Built for high payload applications where precision and rigidity are important.
M-900iB/700
A strong choice for constant-force or demanding heavy-duty applications.
Robot Note The M900iB/280 went through a redesign to increase rigidity by increasing the thickness of the robot castings in pivotal areas like the arm. The robot was tested to ISO 9283 rigidity standards and outperformed other robots in the same class. The ISO 9283 performance standard defines important industrial robot characteristics and proper methods for testing for compliance. This characteristic makes this robot the best choice for constant force applications.

Mounting & Environment

The M-900 series supports multiple installation approaches and can be configured for challenging industrial environments.

  • Floor mounting
  • Ceiling mounting
  • IP67 rated wrist
  • Optional packages for dust or liquid-heavy environments

Typical Applications

The M-900 is often applied where strength, repeatability, and integrated handling matter.

  • Roll handling
  • Full layer palletizing
  • Machine load / unload
  • Other material handling
  • Vision-guided applications with iRVision

Example Jobs Using the M-900

Heavy part load unload

Press Tending

Robotic load and unload systems automatically transfer parts into and out of machines or processes, improving consistency while reducing manual handling..

Roll handling application

Container Handling

Robotic inversion systems pick containers, rotate them to remove debris or residual material, and return them to the process flow ready for reuse.

Full layer palletizing

Full Layer Palletizing

Large robots like the FANUC M-900 can palletize heavy products or full product layers where smaller palletizing robots cannot handle the payload.

Vision guided handling

Vision-Guided Handling

Robotic systems pick inspected parts and transfer them to the next stage of the process, ensuring consistent handling and maintaining production flow.
