From high-mix robotic painting to high-speed spray applications, MCRI can engineer around the part, material, production rate, available footprint and finish or dispensing requirements.

Automated Panel Coating

Robotic Panel Coating & Polyurea Spray Automation

Coating automation can extend well beyond the spray robot. For this large-panel application, the entire process was integrated into one continuous automated line, from incoming panel handling and surface preparation through coating, curing and finished-part stacking.

Large panels are automatically destacked by a FANUC M-410 material handling robot and placed onto a custom conveyor system. Before coating, the panels pass through an automated cleaning and dust collection process to prepare the surface for consistent material application.

Complete Process Automation
A FANUC P-250 paint robot applies a controlled polyurea coating before the panels travel through an inline infrared curing oven. At the end of the line, machine vision and robotic handling are used to pick and stack the finished panels.

By integrating material handling, surface preparation, robotic spraying, curing, vision and palletizing, the system reduces manual handling and operator exposure while creating a more repeatable coating process from start to finish.

Automated Industrial Spray Systems

Not every automated spray application should begin with a robot. Part geometry, product mix, required coverage, line speed and available floor space all influence the right equipment architecture.

For an automotive supplier producing foam components, consistent spray coverage and available labor were major concerns. Simulation showed that meeting the required production rate robotically would require multiple robots, adding unnecessary footprint and cost.

Engineering the Right Process
A purpose-built automated spray system was developed instead, handling varying part styles while accurately dosing and spraying each part. The resulting equipment increased throughput and quality and was later repeated as production expanded.

The result is automation designed around what the process actually requires rather than forcing a robot into an application where another approach performs better.

Robotic Dispensing

Robotic Adhesive, Sealant & Urethane Dispensing

Adhesive and sealant applications depend on more than following the correct path. Bead location, material flow, robot speed, hose routing, tooling and part presentation all affect the consistency of the finished process.

A bus manufacturer turned to automation for a critical windshield operation that had previously been performed manually. The robot needed to dispense a uniform urethane bead around both left- and right-side windshields before installation, where the material serves as both the bond and weather seal.

Application Detail
The original concept called for a collaborative robot, but the filled material hose and high-traffic production area made a standard six-axis robot with appropriate safeguarding the better engineering choice.

The completed dispensing cell improved process consistency and quality while also increasing throughput and reducing reliance on a difficult manual operation.

Tire Manufacturing

Tire Spraying, Painting & Precision Fluid Application

Tire manufacturing brings a specialized set of spraying and painting requirements. MCRI integrates equipment for green tire spraying, tire marking and painting, precision fluid application and related handling processes for passenger, light-truck, commercial and specialty tires.

Systems can identify and measure randomly arriving tires, apply recipe-based process parameters and precisely control where and how much material is applied. Depending on the process, solutions can include robotic single-station, high-speed dial-index or portable spraying equipment.

Applications Include
Inside and outside green tire spraying, high-point painting, conicity tread striping, white-letter protection, whitewall protection, bladder spraying and other controlled tire-fluid applications.

The goal is consistent application with better control of overspray, contamination, material usage, ergonomics and production uptime.
