They trusted us with the original system. Then trusted us again.
After years in production and another successful project together, this customer returned to MCRI when it was time to replace an aging robot.
Replacing the Robot Before It Became a Problem
The robot was still running and doing its job, which says a lot about how long it had performed in this facility. It was installed in 2008, but the robot itself was already about 10 years old at the time. Rather than waiting for aging equipment to create a harder-to-manage support issue, the company took a preventative approach and chose a replacement timeline that worked for their operation. After nearly 30 years of service, it was a practical way to protect uptime and keep the system moving forward.
A Quick Look at the Relationship Behind the Project
An Aging System and a Returning Customer
This robot replacement was not for a recently installed cell. The system had been in service since 2008, running on an older FANUC R-J2 controller with an S-420iF robot. While the original integration had held up, the equipment had reached the point where long-term support was becoming a concern.
As robot platforms age out of the current lineup, repair parts become harder to source and downtime risk increases. Replacing the robot provided a more reliable path forward with modern equipment and better supportability.
What makes this project stand out is the relationship behind it. This was not a one-time engagement. The customer had previously returned to Motion Controls Robotics for another system, and when it came time to modernize this cell, they came back again.
This Was Not the Only Project We Completed for Them
Before this robot replacement, the same customer returned to Motion Controls Robotics for another automation project. That newer system placed well tanks of multiple sizes onto a moving overhead conveyor, using line tracking technology to keep the process accurate and efficient.
It is a strong example of how customer relationships can grow over time, from one successful integration to the next, and then into service and modernization support when older equipment reaches the point where replacement makes sense.

We Can Help You Evaluate Robot Replacement Options
If you have an older robot system that is becoming harder to maintain, Motion Controls Robotics can help you evaluate the next step. In some cases, support and repairs still make sense. In others, replacing the robot is the better long-term move for uptime, parts availability, and future support.
Whether we originally built the system or you inherited it from someone else, our team can help you determine the most practical path forward.
